Bible Facts - After Israel was established, God had the country ran by Judges. They were the ones that made sure God's Will was done and got stuff done. At some point the ancient Israelis started saying they wanted a king the other countries. God had Samuel to warn Israel what a king would do to them(basically tax them into poverty and worse). . .Israel didn't listen. . .King Saul angered God to point God personally took him out the picture, King David, while a good king, did an adultery and murder. God did NOT let him get away with that. King Solomon's sexcapades ended up with two heirs arguing who was the successor and ended up with a civil war/split nation.
