But many think that we're in a recession now. Seeing consumer spending slow is also an indicator, which does seem to be happening now too.

The article I read talked about 'money velocity' and used that as the indicator of the recession.

Yes when the velocity of money is down, people are spending less. Which is what happens in a recession. Including businesses investing less.
