1. The Marine Corps is an Independent Branch, But Serves Under the Navy
Although both the Navy and the Marine Corps are regarded as separate branches of the military, the Marine Corps is technically a part of the U.S. Navy, ever since Congress placed the Marines under the Navy in 1834. That means that while the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps reports to the secretary of the Navy, the Navy is its own entity, so the secretary of the Navy reports directly up the chain to the secretary of defense.

https://www.uso.org/stories/3128-what-is-the-difference-between-navy-vs-marines

-Congress put Marines under Navy
-Commandant of US Marine Corps reports to secretary of the Navy.
-Navy does its own thing and reports to secretary of chain of defense

Marines is Navy Junior. End of it.

Also their dates are wrong.

The Continental Navy was the United States first Navy and established 13 October 1775
Marines was formed November 10, 1775

But you know.. History and all. Going by PL if they want to go route of chicken or the egg debate.

Ooookay...?
Don't see what you think is funny. But then again, if you were marching into battle like that, I'm pretty sure you'd know whose side you were on.

In most cases, yes. But not necessarily. In this instance, "Junior" is used the same way as "lite" would be used.

Nah, as in creation date. The mission is the same. The USAF has been operating SPACE Command since the 60s. Have fun!!!

In that sense, yes. But in the sense of relative size and in jurisdiction over one another, "Junior" is also an acceptable usage of the word. Besides, this is pointless, arguing over semantics. You know what I meant.

Yes! That's exactly what I've been telling you! All Trump did was make it into a separate branch! You can have your opinion as to whether or not that decision was a good one, or even necessary, but if the military had found such an issue relevant in the 60s, then surely it would be much more relevant in the 21st century, with its fast paced technological advances.

In 1997, Air Force Chief of Staff Ron Fogleman outlined a vision to “transition from an air force to an air and space force, on an evolutionary path toward a space and air force.” In 2001, the Rumsfeld Space Commission issued its final report, which recommended a “gradual evolution toward a separate Service for space by creating a Space Corps within the Air Force as an intermediary step.” This wasn’t even Trump’s idea and Congress had to vote to approve it. Nice try with the blame game though.

You are right. For once there. Marines came after Navy.

I can stand to be corrected. Thanks for taking the time to post like an adult. Respect.
