He didn't release any of the titles they banned, nor did they site specific evidence of their claims.

They just randomly banned a bunch of books that the school systems will have to buy replacements.

Gee. I wonder if a publishing company made any donations to his campaign recently...? I bet they did.

Once again you are misinformed.

They didn't ban any books. There were 150+ math books submitted to the FL Dept. of ED for consideration for use. Of those 54 were rejected for not meeting FL standards including, using common core, having CRT references, and referencing gender identity. None of which belongs in a math book.

The FL Dept. of ED did not release the titles, publisher, or authors name to protect their identity, but mainly to avoid defamation suits.

They did not waste money since these books are not currently used.

The FL Dept. of ED was following the guidelines issued by the State Legislator and the Governor. Therefore, your opinion on this is irrelevant, especially if you are not a FL Parent.

How do you know the books didn't meet guidelines?

You literally don't.

They didn't release the book names.

And why does a governor have to step in and make announcements about banning the books? Why not provide specific details on how they didn't meet standards?

Unless it's alll a bunch of smoke and mirrors designed to make you think he's "owning the libs" and their "indoctrination" ?

Yeah. It's that. It's 100% that.

It's all nonsense designed to make you think he's actually doing something when, in fact, he's done nothing.

You're being scammed.

They did release the list. It must be painful to be this misinformed and talking about something you obviously know nothing about.

https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story/news/2022/04/18/critical-race-theory-substandard-math-textbooks-thrown-out-florida-desantis/7359977001/

As far as why the books were rejected, that is the Dept. of ED job to make that decision. They said that the books didn't meet FL standards.

If you would like, go read each book and decide for yourself, though your feelings will have no effect on the outcome.

Some interesting facts for publishers whose books were rejected.

Publisher, Savvas Learning Company LLC, have a whole page on their web site about how equity, inclusion, and diversity is part of their strategy. What has this got to do with math

https://bigideaslearning.com/about-us
https://www.mheducation.com/about/diversity-equity-inclusion.html

Another publisher, Big Ideas Learning, LLC, claims to be the author of over 50 common core math programs.

Not the curriculum FL wants to teach.

Publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt states

"We bring learning to countless students and teachers—transforming lives, supporting communities, and making our society more open, just, and inclusive for all."
https://www.hmhco.com/about-us

McGraw Hill LLC states
"Through our commitment to equity, accessibility and inclusion, we foster a culture of belonging that respects and reflects the diversity of the people and communities we serve."

Thank you for supplying that link. It is literally the only place I've seen with the list of books.

But reading through it, I do notice something; they never list their source for the list.

No where that I can find.

So, how do we know they didn't pull this list out of thin air? How can we verify this information?

Here's the state of florida's press release: https://www.fldoe.org/newsroom/latest-news/florida-rejects-publishers-attempts-to-indoctrinate-students.stml?fbclid=IwAR3VmsKzNvJawEfuD5t5k315p0An9SLOs7TcBgkokQ9P8Iw31Ka1IPnl6CI

Notice what they don't list?

ANY of the books they banned.

Since the list was published by the Palm Beach Post, the major newspaper for Palm Beach County and a part of the Gannett/USA Today chain, I would assume they got from the FL Dept of Ed.

I have not seen a complete list of books that are no longer allowed in FL school, since I believe they are still reviewing it. I have seen lists of some of the titles being objected to for different ages. Some of these are for young children others are for middle school.

They include;
George
By Alex Gino

Am I Blue? Coming Out of the Silence
By Marion Diane Bauer

One Dad, Two Dads, Brown Dad, Blue Dads
by Johnny Valentine

Between Lovers
By Eric Jerome Dickey

It Feels Good to Be Yourself: A Book About Gender Identity
by Theresa Thorn

Heather Has Two Mommies
by Lesléa Newman

Mom and Mum Are Getting Married!
by Ken Setterington

The Boy in the Dress
by David Walliams

A Tale of Two Mommies
by Vanita Oelschlager

Gender Queer
by Maia Kobabe

These are the only ones I know about.

Until there's a list released by the State of Florida with specific examples of how a math book is teaching CRT, it's all fluff and nonsense.

It's a lie Desantis is selling you so he can seem like he's "defending" children.

He's jousting with shadows he created.

Here is the list published by the FL DofE with the ratings for each book rejected.

https://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/5574/urlt/2122MathInstructMatNotRecList.pdf

I'm sorry, but the FL Dept of ED doesn't owe you any further explanation on how they do their jobs.

You are always free to read each book and compare them to FL Standards and see if you agree with them. Of course whether you agree or not is immaterial to the final decision.

At least FL has standards. Considering Florida ranks 3rd in the nation for K-12 Achievement and #1 in higher education.
