Hhahahahaha, that's not how downvotes work on imgflip. Downvotes don't do anything outside of comments. Everyone on the site could downvote the same meme, and it wouldn't change the popularity based ordering. Memes are ONLY sorted based on popularity (the Hot list is based on upvotes) or age (the New list is based on the submission timestamp).

The only thing that happens when your meme is down voted is that the person voting gets a point. Nothing happens to you or your meme when it gets down voted.

It affects the order of posts, a post with 20 up votes and 30 down will appear lower than a post with 20 up votes and no down votes. The effort is to down vote it enough that it appears on later pages of the list hoping viewers don't scroll that far down the page listings.

In comments enough down votes makes the comment hidden due to down votes. Can't help but notice everytime I get into chats like this I can go onto old posts of mine that have nothing to do with politics and see they they suddenly are hidden for too many down votes for some odd reason.

Nope, it doesn't work that way. Down votes have no affect on meme ordering. The "Hot" filter displays memes ordered by their popularity (up-votes). You should ask a moderator, they'll tell you.

I've been here a long time. I spent the first year testing this site to determine exactly how it works. The ONLY thing you can do to adversely affect another user is to down-vote their comments. Down-voting comments must be done by MANY users in order to affect your target.

That isn't her "making something up" - it's her linking to an authoritative source, a source that confirms the statement that she actually did make - which, consequently, was a question about the possibility of it being a cause....So it wasn't actually a statement at all, it was a question.
