Pence could have turned this into a Trumpdictraitorship and the Demz would have done exactly what they're doing about it now - nothing ("we got some emails!") - and he could have paid for that with his life the same day in the same place. So I'd say he pulled a last sec Darth Vader and chucked the faux emperor to his end.
