If you were a criminal you wouldn't have to wait for a background check.

So very true! I am actually at the other end of the extreme. Although I am now retired, throughout my career I held a great many very high level security clearances. I was routinely investigated. I was routinely fingerprinted, and there were several other methods that the government used to ensure that there were no vices that could compromise me, etc. In short, the government already knows, even before today's transaction, that I am squeaky clean. Nonetheless, today's background check took almost 2 hours for me before giving the green light to the gun dealer that I was good to go.

Nice! I'm in the same boat. I wish that I'd have been paying attention after I retired from the Marine Corps, I could have gotten my concealed carry in Colorado at little to no cost within 10 years. But, I waited too long before checking into that, kicked myself in the but.

I have filled out a good number of SFs in the past working as a defense contractor. What really chapped our ass was that Buckley Air Force (now Space Force) base didn't allow you to bring any weapons on board in your vehicle under any circumstances. I had a friend that got pulled over for a random vehicle inspection and got written up for having ONE ROUND in his vehicle from when he had been at the range over the weekend. He didn't even have the gun in the vehicle, just one round.

Anyhow, going back to my comment, you're spot on, as I was trying to say the criminals don't have to worry about waiting on a background check because they don't and never will bother buying their guns legally. No amount of restrictions in how law abiding citizens acquire guns will alter how criminals acquire theirs.

I was never in any branch of the armed forces, but spent my entire career working with the military. The difference between what I did and what you did? I was always a very well paid civilian. You handed the government a blank check payable up to and including your life! I ALWAYS hold those who serve our country in the armed forces in the highest regard. Semper Fi.
