I'd venture her flagrant ignorance surrounding the holocaust is because she conflates race with skin color. She is a typical vapid talking head, spouting her ignorance to the choir of muppets that choose to listen to her. Only when she is openly admonished does she apologize however, the apology is not due to actual contrition.

And if your so dismissive of her apology, then should I be just as equally dismissive of your position and claim you don't really care about books being banned from school?

I read and understood your prior comment. Please reread mine in order to understand why I dismiss her apology.

If you're so concerned about my position on banning books in schools, here it is: classic works of literature should never be banned, regardless of their content. Literature is a reflection of the time and culture in which it was created. Rather than stop someone from experiencing it, schools should provide context and critical analysis which is contingent upon academic ability.

Whoopi, speaking in absolute terms, is mistaken and given her ignorant understanding of such a prominent historical event as the holocaust, should refrain from promulgating her crude and misguided opinion. Further, saying sorry is easy, being sorry is hard.

She apologized so her terms weren't absolute.

You misunderstand. She spoke about the Nazis and their crimes against humanity in absolute terms like, they didn't kill German speaking people, it wasn't about race. She conflated race and skin color, as I stated before. She only saw race through a spectrum of black and white, again, in absolute terms. She is an ignorant fool and only apologized because she was called out on her flagrant disregard for factual history. Perhaps she has adjusted her view of race to now include German/Polish Jews, maybe Slavs and Gypsies, as belonging to distinct racial groups apart from the Germans despite having similar melanin levels. Time will tell if she actually learns from her mistakes and speaks with educated authority. Whether or not I accept her apology is irrelevant.

I didn't attribute the killing of German speaking people to a quite by Whoopi rather gave it as an example of a stupid argument that flagrantly ignorant people use to conflate race and skin color. Contextually, she denied racism because it was "white groups of people" and deflected to inhumanity against man. Regardless of the fact that Judaism is a religion and not a race, it was clear in Nazi ideology that the two were one in the same. Again, this demonstrates her disregard for historical fact while touting ignorant positions on television. Behar is also wrong in that it wasn't about the white race rather, it was about the Aryan race, which was white. A subtle but clear distinction and nuance matters. If these idiots can't be bothered to engage in an educated and nuanced discussion, they should refrain and stick to more banal topics that their insipid audience can understand. It doesn't matter if the groups consider themselves any skin color. She is wrong and her point is moronic.
