Yes, I could win the lottery. But it’s likely not going to happen. Ig straightening has worse odds than the lottery

Huh. Interesting. I don’t think I would have disapproved that one.

I’m not familiar with the interpretive history behind that particular Bible verse. From my understanding of the overall thrust of Jesus’s teachings, He couldn’t have possibly been pro-slavery. Slavery flies in the face of everything He taught about the meek inheriting the earth, etc.

That said, there are passages of the Bible which have been used by “Christians” over the centuries to justify slavery. And ultimately, slavery wasn’t abolished in most “Christian” countries until 1800+ years after the death Jesus Christ. Complicating matters further is the fact that abolitionists *also* claimed that Christianity was on their side.

So, I’m not sure it’s misinformation, but I’m not sure it’s *not* misinformation either. Because the historical relationship between Christianity and slavery is a murky point, I don’t feel confident enough to overrule our mod’s decision.

yeah
I just posted this here because you are a mod and then he took the teaching out of context. The Bible is anti-slavery, but just like all things, some people will just be bad

I agree the Bible, properly understood, is anti-slavery. Sadly, it took most Christian countries 1800+ years to properly understand it.

What else will we learn about Jesus’s teachings in the next 1800 years?

Not sure
but a mod at PT surely took what I put in out of context
In what part of "The poor will always be with you, but I will not" has pro-slavery slants?

Idk. I was reading interpretations of that verse and my head started spinning. I’m not sure a proper reading necessarily equates poor people to slaves.

But I feel like whoever wrote that sees themselves as smart on this topic now

Jesus was apolitical. He even told Pilate that His kingdom was "not of thjs earth." He wasn't born to upend the political institutions of his time which is one reason the Jews ultimately turned on Him.

I think Jesus made some statements to the effect that He didn’t mean to overturn the established order of things — but took plenty of actions to indicate the opposite.

The Pharisees (religious establishment) and Romans (political establishment) conspired to have Jesus executed. That tells me what I need to know

Roman's only wanted him out near the end because the Pharisees and powerful Jews wanted him out for being more inclusive and threatened revolt (this region was the most rebellious to Rome) and they didn't want that
