Fun Fact: Lincoln only won the Republican primary in 1860 because he was the *only* Republican candidate who wouldn't say that America should end slavery. So in that sense he's a very modern Republican.

Abortion was commonly practiced until the 19th century, actually as noted in the Egyptian Ebers Papyrus in 1550 BCE
