Here is what I suggest,

Ask if they knew your preferred pronoun? It’s not their fault if they didn’t know. I feel like people just assume that we already know when we don’t actually know at least 80% of the time and then get mad at us for misgendering on accident. It’s not really something to be mad about and it happens to the best of us. For example, I don’t even know your pronouns.

A way for others to be safe from unnecessary arguments/fights is to just use they/them until they know.
