Let's look at the alternatives -
1) Go directly to war with Russia - Climate Change is no longer an issue because most the planet becomes a radioactive wasteland or end up in another Vietnam/Afghanistan War(more likely this one.)
2) Continue with sanctions/Hague Trial - Worked on no dictator ever.
3) Peace Treaty between Russia and Ukraine - Read how that kind of thinking worked out for Chamberlain.
4) Ignore it and hope it all goes away - Was also tried with Hitler in many political circles.
5) No Fly Zones - Maybe at the start but not now. A late and a dollar short as the saying goes.
Only two ways this ends that is satisfactory - 1) The Ukrainians manage to push Russia back like how the VC pushed back US forces in Vietnam. 2) The Russian people do to Putin what the Italians did to Mussolini.
