Yeah, the first time that I saw those types of statements was 1990 during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The military was activating reservists for the first time and they were REALLY having a tough time wrapping their heads around that.
It's unbelievable to me how anyone can have that kind of mentality although it wasn't as prevalent in the Marine Corps, probably because the conventional quote is "every Marine a rifleman" meaning that you could go anywhere anytime and be told to do anything, regardless of your MOS.
