~ SLOTH’S SENATE PLATFORM ~
1. PARTICIPATION: Regular, weekly participation of Senate members will be expected. It’s in the Constitution after all! We will aim to vote on new bills at least once a week — new laws, proposals, and resolutions will be made every Friday (ideally), and the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) will consist of a period for discussion and voting. By Monday, Senate votes will be tallied and the bill will be deemed either passed or failed. Any Senate member may propose a new bill. If for some reason no one has an idea for a law that week, the weekend will simply be a roll call. If a Senator misses two votes/roll calls in a row, then they will lose good standing and a search for their replacement will commence. A Senator who has lost good standing may apply for re-admission to the Senate for good cause shown.
2. SELECTION OF SENATORS: A short yet substantive application form will ask aspiring Senators to provide the stream they wish to represent, their Imgflip background and interests, and an affirmation to uphold the PRESIDENTS Constitution to the best of their ability. The Senate will aim to consist of 6-10 members total, but this number may be adjusted up or down depending on the level of interest shown. I don’t want to exclude anyone from participating in the Senate who shows a genuine interest, and doesn’t otherwise have a position on Congress or somewhere else in government.
3. ROLEPLAY: Participation in the Senate aims to be both fun and intellectually challenging. This will help keep activity alive! The Senate will take votes both on matters that actually affect the stream in a tangible way, as well as on totally imaginary scenarios loosely based on current and past news headlines that will model the kinds of decisions that real-world governments are called upon to make. The infrastructure bill is an example — decisions made regarding the bill’s substantive provisions and financing will impact stream events later down the road in curious and unexpected ways.
