They have long been fudging the unemployment numbers but what the news media never pays attention to is the labor participation rate. This rate does not rely on the number of people filing for unemployment compensation. It is the number of people 16 and older who are working or actively seeking employment divided by the number of working age adults.
Currently it is 62.2%. This is up from the COVID low of 60.2% in April of 2020. It has risen to 63.4% in Feb of 2020 from Obama's low of 62.4% in Sept of 2015. Bush had a high of 66.8% in Feb of 2002. It puttered around slightly declining to a low of 65.7% when Obama took office. During the Obama years it plummeted down to 62.4%. It started slowly climbing again under Trump until COVID.
