Protip from my father - don't expect the military to do you any favors(especially from the 'political side' of the military and/or the VA) when you decide to leave. Have a plan for when you leave at the same time you make a plan for when you join. It's why a lot of veterans end up homeless- they thought the military and/or government would help them after the fact.
My time in WAS the favor, best job I ever had! That was me back in 2008, family assumed I'd use my degree and be an officer or something, nope. Infantry baby, airborne all the way.
