When I was a child in Illinois I woke up one morning to the radio saying "And it is now 67 degrees below zero with wind chill.

My school was called off, but I wouldn't go outside until it was at least 40 degrees below zero.

I’ve certainly seen those wind chill temps here in Northern New Hampshire, and I’ve seen 50 below zero for temperature. I think that we both fully understand how cold it can be.

And it's why the next year I went to a boarding school back in Southern California.

I spent a few years working in Southern California. I pretty much lived at the Dana Point Marina Inn while I worked at Camp Pendleton. Right now, I’m only 20 minutes away from the US/Canada border and at a rather high elevation. So, it certainly gets quite cold up here,

OOO... THAT'S SO COLD! | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I lived in a suburb of Chicago when I got to experience cold weather, not really my thing. I've lived in California for most of my life.

When you were out here what did you think?

I was working in California in the 1980's during the Reagan administration. I was on his "Star Wars" team, and assigned to research of the physics of high energy lasers. I really liked working in Southern California. The weather was always great.

The weather is the main reason I stay in California. Although I have become quite comfortable living by the beach too.

It sounds like your reasons to be here were quite important too. Have you had any reasons to be here since then?

No. I have not visited California since the 80's. I worked in lots of places like Seattle, Portland, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, etc. I actually do not mind the cold. Heat bothers me terribly. And after spending so much of my career travelling, I really appreciate living in a remote, sparsely populated rural area that happens to be cold for a good part of the year. So, in my senior years, I've become a homebody. I live in a wilderness area with a total human population of about 24 people, that has far more moose than people.

You have traveled around a lot. And I can appreciate your sentiment. Actually it sounds kind of nice. I'm not much for hot temperatures either. That's why I live at the beach, in the winter it's usually warmer than inland, and during the summer eighty degree days here and there is the extent of the heat.

I certainly remember the great weather where you are, and I can really appreciate folks like you who live there. Weather-wise, it was the very best place where I worked, And I spent many, many hours of bicycling from Venice Beach up through places like Santa Monica, Topanga, Malibu, etc. All the very best to you!

Oh so you've been to or through where I live. I'm so glad you have fond memories of your time here. I hope you have wonderful days ahead of you too!
