We’re serious about all our policies, but especially this one. Why?
COVID has killed more Americans than any war, including the Civil War, and by the looks of it, it isn’t even close to done with us. Matter of fact, COVID will likely become “endemic” and be with us essentially forever — though hopefully killing fewer and fewer people as time goes on and we begin to reach a level of herd immunity through a combination of vaccination and natural immunity. Or, newer, deadlier, and more transmissible variants could keep pulling us in the other direction. We’d all like to think COVID will one day go away “like a miracle,” as a former President once said. The truth is no one really knows; no one has a crystal ball. But the terrible wreckage COVID has already wrought cannot be denied.
Disinformation about COVID can literally kill or permanently maim you (or others) in a way that heated debates about taxation and size of government, or even hot-button topics like racism and abortion, cannot.
As a wise man once said: You may be done with COVID, but COVID isn’t done with you.
Therefore, I’m more liable to use the comment-delete, timer, and permaban mod tools regarding COVID than on any other subject. Will information exchanged on PoliticsTOO be the cause of anyone’s hospitalization or death? Not on my watch.
Science and public policy around COVID are rapidly evolving. There are legitimate debates to be had on topics like the timing of booster shots, where and when it’s most beneficial to wear a mask, and school openings/closures — but wholesale downplaying the COVID crisis, questioning science or scientists with rumors and innuendo, being anti-vaxx or anti-mask generally for no reason, etc. won’t be tolerated here.
Bottom-line: If you want to discuss COVID on this forum, then you must be minimally informed. Otherwise, enjoy parlaying your COVID disinformation in the la-la land of politics stream and the other improperly-modded streams like it.
