The "fact checking" industry is the collection of journalistic groups that have grown in prominence since after 2016, and which now exercise an undeserved amount of power in controlling the flow of ideas, particularly on social media. Big Tech regularly uses them as the "final word" in determining whether or not to censor speech. While fact-checking groups on the internet originally provided some legitimate benefits to the public, in more recent years they have become transparently partisan in what they choose to "fact check", and also in regard to their conclusions, which regularly side with the political left. They have also made some flat-out incorrect conclusions, which raises the issue of the worth of such services in the first place.
