Sometimes sacrifice is quiet, humble, and never noticed. Thank someone you love today for what they have done for you. | AN OLD COUPLE SPENT EVERY MORNING EATING BREAKFAST TOGETHER, THE HUSBAND ALWAYS COOKED AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, HIS WIFE ENDED UP WITH THE END PIECES OF THE BREAD LOAF FOR HER TOAST; SHE WAS ALWAYS GRATEFUL AND ATE IT ANYWAY BUT ALWAYS WONDERED WHY HER HUSBAND INSISTED ON GIVING HER THE END PIECES WHILE KEEPING THE SOFT INNER PIECES FOR HIMSELF; ONE DAY, THE HUSBAND FELL ILL, AND IT WAS APPARENT THAT HIS TIME WAS FAST COMING TO PASS ON, SO AS THEY TALKED TO EACH OTHER IN HIS LAST DAYS, SHE FINALLY MUSTERED UP THE COURAGE TO ASK HIM, "WHY DID YOU ALWAYS GIVE ME THE END PIECES OF BREAD WHILE KEEPING THE SOFT INSIDE SLICES FOR YOURSELF?"; WITH LABORED BREATH, HIS ANSWER TO HER WAS SIMPLE AND BRIEF: "DEAREST LOVE, THE END PIECES WERE ALWAYS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE LOAF" | image tagged in sliced bread, toast, inspirational, love | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

Sorry to hear that nopa, you have my sympathies. I hope the resonance you felt was of good memories and not painful. Take care.

Thanks Thparky. Many good memories and plenty of laughs, we had a great life together (32 years married).

Well congratulations on that! It's nice to see that longevity in marriage hasn't completely disappeared. My wife and I are coming up on 13 years this month, so many jump right into marriage and don't consider what it actually means and divorce is just way too commonplace. Happens all the time though. It's hard work to stay together sometimes, I wish there were more out there that would actually do it right. Remembering the good memories and all the laughs goes a long way towards keeping it together though, sounds like you and her had it good. That alone is enough to make me smile so good on you! Cheers.
