"I bet you also believe what the Bible says about the earth having pillars and how it never moves"
Your thought process is truly painful to observe. Do you have constant headaches? Serious question.
Do you know what figures of speech are? They are used constantly in literature of all forms.
Do you know what poetic license is, and why it is used?
Do you level the same useless argument against the local weather-person when they claim that the sun circles the Earth vs the Earth spinning on its axis? They daily tell us when sunrise and sunset will happen. Or is there such a thing as anthropocentric modes of speech and writing- another literal tool.
*The Bible informed us that there were canyons under the seas, long before SONAR was invented.
*The Bible told us that the Universe was expanding before red shift was discovered.
*The Bible taught ancient Israel about sanitation, long before germs were seen for the first time under a microscope.
*The Bible protected those who paid attention to it from catching infestations found in their homes. (Yes, I saw your nonsense use of that portion, and the good response that was given.)
*The Bible explained the water cycle, long before scientists figured it out.
*Etc.
When the Bible says,
For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12
- do you for a moment believe that the readers, both then and now, are supposed to take that literally?
If you read more than just MLP comic books, I think you would find that there are all sorts of literary devices that can be used to communicate important information in a meaningful and memorable fashion. To not understand this is to bring an a priori, and anti-intellectual, bias to any book one reads.
