They view "truth" as a tool to be wielded for nothing more than the very purpose of controlling the minds of the people. It's a tried and true tactic used by most authoritarian organizations and authoritarian govts. I believe it was first worked to perfection by Joseph Goebbels using the relatively new mass mediums at the time, of radio and cinema.
