People have already come forward to describe what a shit show that production was. One said that Alec Baldwin firing that weapon at the crew had NOTHING to do with production work at that point in time. But most importantly, the known facts speak for themselves. A real weapon and live ammunition were on the set, contrary to prevailing production practices in the industry, and needlessly there. A single-action revolver simply doesn't fire itself, but requires specific manipulation to place it into a condition in which it will fire. There was definitely gross incompetence on the set involving firearms, which Alec Baldwin was responsible for as (at least top-billed) producer.
Most importantly, Alec Baldwin picked up a weapon, cocked it, aimed it at the crew, and deliberately fired it, killing one and wounding another. That act has been described as having nothing to do with production of the picture. So anyone but a rich liberal would already be in jail, and would indeed be facing a long prison sentence.
