It's true as far as it goes that Japan has plenty of social problems of its own - very anti-immigrant, sexist workplaces, racism, etc etc.

However, it would be surprising to me to learn that things were the *reasons* for its low gun deaths.

A much more simple explanation (which also explains low gun death rates in other countries, including racially diverse European countries) is that they simply regulate guns better than we do.
