Can I manly mansplain for a moment. The main thesis and anti-thesis you are referring to is this. Liberals and their general inclusivity argue that all religious structures are equal. Conservatives on the other hand argue that some religious structure is best. Since the south was mainly agrarian and the north was mainly industrial these constitute conflicting quasi-religious structures. Yet liberals cannot stomach that particular possibility.

So the Civil War becomes the benchmark for liberal caution some might say hypocriticality. Conservatives then would like take the low road and contrive a weakness in liberal thinking.
