Yes, of course. Cleanest energy source possible and also the safest. Only people ruled by emotion don't want nuclear. Reason goes out the window with them and they see these 2 or 3 nuclear disasters and think that demonstrates an unsafe energy source.

exactly, and as far as I know, those designs were flawed from the start. The ones we have are on a whole different level

I am all for investing more into nuclear energy, especially if it means we get around to unlocking nuclear fusion. Don’t get me wrong, I like other renewables as well like wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal energy, but we need to have enough power to fulfill our energy needs for the future and nuclear is the best path towards that.

We'll see what happens with a viable fusion reactor, it's been a really slow process to get out more energy than is put in.
I didn't realize geothermal powerplants were a thing, I'll have to look into that

If one goes deep enough anywhere on earth there is heat. heat is energy. So here is a brain teaser, why not just build geothermal (some form of it) everywhere?

I've heard a little more about them since 2 weeks, but still not enough to have an educated conversation XD
In theory though that's a really good idea

Yes. Nuclear energy is one of the cleanest forms of energy we have available to us, and the amount of energy it makes is very high in contrast to the amount of fuel it requires. People get hung up on spent fuel disposal and the accidents that have happened in history. Yes, it's more dangerous than other plants if something goes wrong, but the chances of something happening when all systems are properly maintained are very small. We've learned our lesson, and we know what to do if something goes wrong.

I also see your question about locomotives, I dont think small application is in the best interest of mankind. The amount of regulation would get diluted to the point of losing regulation, and that's when things get sloppy and dangerous. If you've ever played the fallout games and seen where every destroyed car produces a small nuclear explosion and resulting mushroom cloud, you know what I mean.

Yeah probably true, I don't know enough about it yet. I just think it would be cool, so that's only half serious lol
1 up, 4y
Yeah, it's really just a knee-jerk reaction for a lot of people to be afraid of it without actually researching how it all works

If we can find a way to actually deal with the waste in a clean and safe way absolutely
But burying it is not a good enough plan for the waste

dig deeper lol, it came from the ground in the first place right?

the actual energy is clean the problem is that the waste from nuclear power is incredibly dangerous and radioactive and what they do is burying it in 50 gallon steel drums but those drums will deteriorate quicker than the nuclear waste and that's gonna screw everyone over when archeologists start digging up radioactive waste digging deeper isn't really a solution to the problem
1 up, 4y,

True I guess, but if it's clearly marked a safe way above ground then people should be able to know not to dig there right?

Problem is aquifers, seepage, and earthquakes aren't proficient at reading.
0 ups, 3y,

Well, earthquakes aren't a problem if you don't bury it near fault-lines
And they seal it up pretty well, stuff isn't just gonna seep out of there

Really? Where are they sealed up now for posterity again, because I missed that chapter in this long tome,,,

They have metal containers designed for it, they're not just wood crates lol

You're kidding, right?

I asked you a simple question, saying it wasn't stored in styrofoam cups was not the answer.

Oh I'm sorry, but I didn't realize you thought that we were storing nuclear waste in the San Andreas fault line. It's called the ground, that's where we bury it.
0 ups, 3y
Ahh, so storing in Yucca Mountain became a thing?

Guess I missed that one by - - how many decades is it already?
0 ups, 3y,
1 reply
Yeah actually. It's a thing scientists are doing, where they take all the nuclear waste, and bury it on every fault line they can find.
0 ups, 3y
hurr, hurr, adding feigned ignorance on top of the very ignorance you're trying to cover it so totes awesome!

"Yucca Mountain! Open for buried nuclear waste since ****!"

Good grief. I weep for the future.
[deleted]
0 ups, 4y
that won't last that long
and with how much waste would get created it makes a lot of areas very unsafe to be even with it buried the actual use of the energy is very clean but the waste is something that our current method for can't last no matter what we try with it burying nuclear waste just isn't a good idea
0 ups, 3y
Difuse over vase acres and locked with other elements... Not separated and distilled for optimized radioactivity,,,

that's nuclear fusion.... we're working on it.... don't know if it's gonna happen
