I don't know about the diversity thing, but I do feel Columbus Day celebrates exploration, much like Leif Erickson Day (though admittedly I like Erickson much better, lol). And when my own husband, who is a Native American, can wish friends a happy Columbus Day I think it is gosh darn time to end the bs politicization of the holiday.
