I’ve been told, by IG himself, that IG was acquitted. This isn’t the end, in the sense that IG now has a blank check to do and say whatever he wants from now until election time.
Bear in mind this was an impeachment trial carried out according to the RUP Constitution. We followed those trial procedures in order to fully exhaust that pathway. But there is a higher law that exists here: the implicit Constitution of IMGFLIP_PRESIDENTS.
What is the implicit Constitution of IMGFLIP_PRESIDENTS? A law that cannot be overturned no matter what any government says.
The implicit Constitution isn’t written anywhere, to my knowledge, but it’s exceedingly short, and it says roughly this:
1. Imgflip Terms of Service must be upheld;
2. Elections must be free and fair;
3. Presidents must have some minimum level of support.
Provision (1) derives from the terms of the website we all use, and which all steam mods agree to uphold.
Provision (2) derives from the IMGFLIP_PRESIDENTS stream description. This is a democratic roleplay. Governments cannot install themselves as dictatorships, or ruthlessly suppress the free speech of political rivals.
Provision (3) might sound hand-wavy, but we have direct precedent of a violation of it: President_Donald_Trump_MAGA_2024 or whatever the hell his name was won an election, but he wasn’t ultimately seated as President, because the Owner determined he had made himself too hated to be President. Awarding him the election therefore would not have been in the best interests of the stream and its community.
The impeachment process has concluded, but IG is not out of the woods, in the sense that he’s free and clear to do whatever he wants. The impeachment trial unearthed evidence that IG may have violated the implicit Constitution of IMGFLIP_PRESIDENTS. Whether IG has, or will in the future, violate the fundamental spirit of this roleplay is for the Owner to determine and address as he sees fit.
