I'm a 39-year attorney who has had about 15 major Continuing Legal Education seminar papers published, in the range 40-200 pages each.
The point is that a bunch of dinosaurs who don't have a clue about modern technology and Internet Information Age culture want to stick their noses into something where their "rules" will be totally useless, and they think they can understand that culture by listening to a handful of people who they want to blame in order to please their political base.
Libel, slander, and defamation have nothing to do with bullying, body shaming, spreading false information about things like COVID, or hurting someone's self-esteem.
To sue for libel, slander, or defamation the plaintiff has to show "MONEY DAMAGES", such as being fired from a job. Without that, no lawyer will touch the case. And no lawyer would take a case with just a few tens of thousands of damages.
Also, OPINIONS are not "actionable", meaning they can't be the basis of a lawsuit.
