If you think they will take care of their own people on Social Security, think again.

Spend what you make. Start the cuts at the White House & congressional pay levels. It will solve itself in a month.

We balanced the budget under Clinton. Bush and the Republicans responded by cutting taxes for the rich, reinstating "borrow and spend," and leaving us in a Great Recession. The classic Econ 101 fix for Recession is deficit spending to spur economic growth. Which Obama did. And, it worked. So, Trump gave us more tax cuts for the rich and more debt. I like balanced budgets. But the current problem is not a college debate subject. It will be real life suffering for most of us, including you. We need to address the problem at hand.

These elitists are the problem. More borrowing us not the answer.

I, for one, do not want any more government debt that I, as in We the People”, am responsible for paying either through taxes or inflation.

I must live within my means. I cannot run up credit card debt to the limit and expect the banks to endlessly raise the limit on my card.
How is this any different?

Tax cuts for the wealthy, added to tax cuts for the wealthy from the past, added to more tax cuts for the wealthy, coupled with spending to blunt the tax cuts' effects on working people, eliminated that projected surplus and produced even more deficits. Republicans want a government so small, "it can drown in its own bathtub." That means crappy schools, crappy roads and bridges, crappy healthcare, and crappy wages with no benefits. In other words it will be a rerun of the early 1930s with no FDR.

If you are counting on social security to provide for your needs in retirement, you are a moron

I am not. But, I have seen it keep older people from living in poverty, like it was intended to do. Many people do not have excess income to invest in IRAs or other retirement funds. When they no longer are able to work, Social Security keeps them housed, etc.

Actions have consequences….

For people born between 1900-1950, it was a good system. After that it became just another government handout in order to keep the players on the plantation
