They think they follow science, because it's a liberal talking point to claim that others don't. The sad irony is that they do not tolerate dissenting speech (aka questioning accepted beliefs) which is about as fundamental as science gets. Which takes us right back to them suppressing speech and thinking they're promoting science. The two concepts are in fact, mutually exclusive. Doesn't slow them down one bit, as they have no effing clue...
