In Japan, the Tokaido line makes money. And that is it. Of all the high speed rail lines in Japan, it alone covers its own operating costs.

In Europe, there is one line between France and Spain that makes money. In all of Europe, that is it.

Between Paris and Lyon.

So the Tokaido line in Japan, and Paris–Lyon in France; of all the high speed rail lines in the world, 2 routes make money. None in Germany, none in the UK, none in China, ... .

And you actually thought generating a meme about high speed rail was a good idea?

Because high speed rail is a giant pit to burn money in, worldwide.

Does not make money in Japan.
Does not make money in continental Europe.
Does not make money in the UK.
Does not make money in Asia.
Does not make money in Africa.
Does not make money, every where it has been built.
Has never made money, every where it has been tried.

But they get to keep subsidizing it, for the rest of time, so that morons who are not paying for it yet, keep lusting after it.

what is the subsidy compared with roads? the main problem from the consumer side is transportation after station. begins to add enough expense that rental cars make more sense.
