Dude that's pretty low to compare 01/06 to 9/11. Five deaths and a few hundred imprisoned for being idiots is hardly comparable to thousands dead and thousands more lives destroyed.

I don't know, it was a terrorist attack on our soil?

Even if it were terrorism (which I don't think it is. Terrorism is usually defined as using violence to influence government policy. This was a protest that degenerated in part into a very violent, visceral riot within the Capitol, but it was fueled by anger, not a planned attempt to change our government. Again, my definitional $0.02), 9/11 was infinitely worse than 01/06. Not sure why 01/06 is worth the credit we're giving it. Trump held a rally, it degenerated into a riot. What else is there to say? It certainly wasn't a savage massacre of thousands of Americans.

I'm not interested in you downplaying, minimizing, denying or defending the January 6th Trump riot.

Dude, it was a pathetic display of a few hundred disgruntled Trump supporters acting off nothing but anger and baseless claims of election fraud. Five died in total and life is going as normal already. It was NOT a premeditated and complex attack that killed three thousand, wounded thousands more, shook the country to its foundations, and in short was the deadliest and most visceral act of terrorism in the history of the United States.

Get perspective

Seems pretty coordinated to me. Even if it wasn't it shouldn't matter. It might be no big deal to you but it cuts me to the core.

I never said it wasn't a big deal. I'm saying it's small potatoes compared to 9/11 and honestly doesn't deserve to be brought up on the day set aside to remember that horrible attack.

Small potatoes huh, Well I strongly disagree.

It's your view, I guess, but history will regard it as very minor in the grand scheme of things for this century.

The bottom line for me is this, how f**king dare these people to romp over the sacred temples of my Country! How dare them try to overturn a democratic election and act like animals, They are traitors to this country and it's a slap in the face to anyone who has ever died for freedom. What kind of freedom do you think these people would offer if they had succeeded in their plans! And don't tell me it wasn't coordinated either, I know all about "trust the plan".They may not have killed anyone, but they tried! What do you think the zip ties and the gallows were all about. I am starting to get really fed up with you acting like this is small potatoes. Maybe for some reason you can't see it for what it is, but I have zero respect for anyone who minimizes this attack.

Dude you exploding isn't going to move me. Welcome to how riots work. People are violent. People are hateful. Whomever is the focus of the riot had better not be around them, because mobs tear folks apart.

Like I said, bog-standard mob. The only significant thing about it was the location, and even that was irrelevant because anyone with brains knows they couldn't do anything no matter what!!!

I doubt that. I think that history will be baffled by this one, and I think it's just part of a story that is still being told. It would be myopic to think that this is a single incident and not part of a steady escalation. I'm all about the big picture.

Explaining in detail about why I think you are wrong is not exploding. It's not going to move you because you can't anybodies point of view but your ownIt's clear to me now you are just going to minimize this attack for the sake of argument.

The big picture is that they had no chance to accomplish anything except make fools of themselves. Now they're in jail. Life goes on.

Quite a few thousand*

And yes, it was pathetic. And disgusting. And worrisome. And weak. And short lived.
And then they went home back to their beer and Doritos and guac.

If you think they are done, you have another thing coming!

You replied to the wrong memer.

They're actually staging another one this month in support of those locked up from Jan 6th.

Because attempting to use terror or even force to compel Congress and then Pence to thow out the results of the election and install Trump as dictator isn't trying to "influence government policy"?

Oh, that's right, it's not, it's terrorism.

Trump never even attended the rally/riot/insurrection, despite telling the drones he would join them. He left those Brown Shirts wannabes to be dispensed with by the proper authorities and washed his hands of them after sending his love.

Sounds like you're trying to make it all about body counts.

You cannot honestly think 01/06 was in any significant way as bad as 9/11. It was a riot that resulted in five dead. 9/11 was the deadliest terrorist attack in history. We can't just go, "Doh, people died, guess it's equally bad."

Sure, there are other ways in which 01/06 was significant, but to compare it to 9/11 is just insulting.

It doesn't seem to matter to you that the Jan. 6 insurrection was an attack carried out from within by Americans?

That's not the point. What you're missing is that 9/11 remains the deadliest terrorist attack in history and the deadliest external attack against peacetime America since Pearl Harbor. Thousands died, thousands more lives were destroyed, and America has never been the same since.

01/06 was a few hundred hooligans mad that Trump lost the election and stupidly hoping they could make some sort of point by breaking into the Capitol. Five folks died in total, and a few hundred have been put in jail. Our democratic process remains soundly intact and that is not going to change.

The incidents are incomparable. Doing so is petty and insulting.

Oh my word dude. Quit reframing the argument every time your fingers touch the keyboard. Of course freaking World War II was worse than 9/11. That's a red herring and is entirely unrelated to our discussion though.

That's not your call to make.

Again, you're reframing.

Actually, I'm not sure what your argument even is at this point. Mine is that there are ways in which events are often simply incomparable, and treating 01/06 like 9/11 in terms of how it should influence public memory is one of them. Feel free to refute this.

Try telling that to the families of those who died.
