To determine whether you or someone else is truly saved I’ll say that it is impossible to know that with absolute certainty. Neither one of us can peer into his/her soul to know it.
However, with ourselves the bible tells us to examine ourselves whether we're saved (2 Corinthians 13:5); & with others we can know from scripture the indicators of true believers.
Assuming that you have already embraced the right fundamental doctrines of the faith ask yourselves the following questions:
1. Have I truly accepted God in who He is (Exodus 34:6-7 & Isaiah 55:8-9)?
2. Have I honestly repented & live in repentance (not only stop sinning but resolved to no longer live in sin)(Mark 1:15, 1 John 2:15-16, & 2 Corinthians 7:10)?
3. Have I really trusted Christ alone for my salvation & not by my own goodness (Romans 10:1-4 & 9-10)?
4. Have I truly surrendered to Christ as my Lord, not just savior (Matthew 10:13-15 & 13:18-23)?
5. Did I know the risk but still willing to suffer for Christ's sake which includes the risk or certainty of rejection, persecution, & death (John 15:18-20, 16:2, & Matthew 24:9)?
6. Am I progressing in knowledge, holiness, & righteousness (2 Timothy 2:15, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, & Ephesians 2:10)?
7. Am I loving my brothers & sisters as I do myself (& not hating them - 1 John 2:9)
The essential difference between true & false believers is that true believers genuinely love the Lord & hate their sins. They care more about His glory than their own advancement, popularity, & prosperity.
That kind of love & devotion cannot be faked; true believers are changed believers as when they believe they receive a new nature whereas before were rebellious & cared nothing about Him (2 Corinthians 5:17 & Romans 8:6-7).
Loving Him & keeping His commandments should not be burdensome to you (1 John 5:3).
Now, if this is you, that you’ve answered yes to all of the questions you can be sure that you are saved.
