Teachers are not your parents; Teachers are not not paid to spell out everything to you or teach you things that your parents are supposed to. Schools are not a hippie commune. That so-called unimportant Algebra is also meant to teach problem solving and critical thinking; it's not just about what you're going to literally use every waking minute of your adult life.
