Consumer prices up 4.7 percent since February 2020

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 5.4 percent, not seasonally adjusted, from June 2020 to June 2021, the largest 12-month advance since the year ended August 2008. Consumer prices increased 4.7 percent from February 2020 to June 2021. February 2020 was the last month before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Since February 2020, prices for food advanced 5.4 percent, while prices for energy increased 8.9 percent. Prices for all items less food and energy rose 4.2 percent from February 2020 to June 2021.
Within all items less food and energy, new vehicles prices advanced 5.3 percent since February 2020, while used cars and trucks prices increased 43.3 percent. Consumer prices for car and truck rental rose 70.8 percent from February 2020 to June 2021.
