I stand corrected, thanks. They are both respiratory illnesses spread by aerosols and in that aspect are the same and spread and infection are as well. The difference may be in severity of illness yet influenza still kills tens of thousands each year. Covid is in the SARS family of virus and influenza are in a similar respiratory virus of a different class.
