You're right, it is philosophical but we're talking about a tree, it still makes sound, but nobody is around for the vibration to hit their eardrums and have that vibration be decoded into a tangible sound that we can hear, back to the waving hand analysis, the vibration hits our eardrums but the sound isn't tangible, however, it is still a sound.
