Maybe Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben didn’t cause our problems. But that Little Debbie kid looks pretty shady.

Of course most logical people understand that. I’m currently traveling on vacation with my family and just yesterday we had a low-key incident in Pennsylvania. We stopped at a restaurant for lunch and one of the servers was pretty obviously upset that she had to serve us. My wife is a Black woman, her mom is a Black woman, and our children are mixed. We just stopped for lunch after leaving Pittsburgh. Apparently this lady had never encountered a mixed family before, or she just never crawled out of the old ways. But I FORCED her to talk to us and address my wife. I asked her manager to make her apologize to my MIL for her comments (that other patrons heard). Of course no tip and the manager was so embarrassed that he offered the whole meal for free, to which we declined and paid full price. It wasn’t the opinion of the restaurant as a whole.

How strange that you first make a meme pretending that stereotyping is not a real problem--then tell a story about someone who's bigotry was emboldened by the stereotypes that surround us.

Stereotyping is a very real problem. Since it appears that the point of the meme is over your head I’ll enlighten you. People screech about some pretty petty things, like plastic straws and a picture of a Black lady on a bottle of syrup, and try to get rid of them because their feelings are hurt. I still don’t understand why a picture of this lady is so offensive when it’s been there for the entirety of my nearly 50 years of life. Nobody that I know gets it either. I guess they would be really offended by the family pictures that we have been taking on our vacation because there are not one, but TWO beautiful black women in them.

It did not go over my head that you're a white person thinks he knows more about racism than someone like me who has actually experienced it.

I don’t claim to know more than you. My wife has also experienced it as has her mom. Until I married a Black woman the concept was alien to me, and the more they tell me the less sense it makes. I just don’t get it. But I’m also not sure what Aunt Jemima did that was so wrong.

She kind of looks like Dionne Warwick.
