Well America is king of divided into the right and left, on the politics stream you mostly see memes from the right and in politicsTOO you usually see memes from the left.

Honestly both sides are wrong, but everyone keeps electing a president that's very strongly on one of those sides, making terrible people in charge

Why do you not have a public option for healthcare?

Because then everyone would have to pay taxes for people's healthcare, plus the fact that it may be considered socialistic by some people due to our attempts to make the US a meritocracy

Why do people think paying $x for a good government system is better than paying $x for a bad private system?

Because many of us have a deep distrust of government, so we are worried that any power given to the government can be used against us. Look at the UK right now, denying an American family the right to leave the country and have their child operated on elsewhere rather than take him off of life support. We don't want our government, which is usually full of extremists, to have the level of power to do the same type of thing but worse

So in principle it's a good idea, but the government is so full of nutters it would all go crazy?

I believe every government is subject to corruption, so it will always eventually go crazy
