Sadly, there's not a big enough collage to show how much Dems loved "democracy" ALL of 2020.

I know I've sadly had to make this point SO... MANY... TIMES... but: America is not a democracy.

I wish people would stop saying that.

We are a Constitutional Republic. What were you taught in school?

We are a democracy and a republic

Holy crap... where are people getting this? I don't understand.

We are a Constitutional Republic... the end. We have elements of the democracy (e.g., voting)... we even have elements of socialism (e.g., wellfare). However, we are a republic which is bound by a constitution. That our constitution has elements of other forms of governance baked into it is incidental.

Honestly... just Google Constitutional Republic and see what pops up. If it differs from what your civics teacher is telling... perhaps you should ask them why they're framing it incorrectly.

We are categorized as a democracy even though we are more of a constitutional federal republic

This is why everyone thinks Americans are stupid. Americans don't even know their form of governance.

Wherever you went to school... they did you no favors.

Google it.

I'm well versed in civics. The fact that you don't know America is a Constitutional Republic is quite sad and tells me that you're a hypocrite... it is easily Googleable.

Best of luck in your future. I suggest you become comfortable with doing your due diligence and looking up things you're unfamiliar with... lest you continue to appear foolish.

I'm finished here. Feel free to have your last word.

Yes it is. Democracy means people vote. Republic means there's no king. We're both.

That democracy means people vote and republic means there's no king and that the constitution says we're both. Same as your school if you were being honest about it.

No. I was honestly always taught that we were a republic, bound by a constitution; a Constitutional Republic... though looking back I had a better than average social science/studies teacher in middle school. That we have functions of democracy baked into the Constitution is incidental.

Just because I have it within me to swim doesn't make me a dolphin, nor am I a kangaroo just because I can get around by hopping from place to place. At the end of the day, I am a human and just because I can tick a few boxes as another kind of mammal, doesn't make me that other thing. Same thing with governments... and most things, if I'm being objectively honest.

I hope this resonates... I can't simplify this any more than that.

Maybe your teacher was a fascist or something but it is ridiculous to downplay the democratic elements as incidental. If you yourself admit that the Constitution enshrines elements of a Republic and elements of a Democracy then why are we having this conversation?

That we're not a democracy except for the parts where were are?

Don't confuse the democratic process with democracy. I know they sound alike but they are not the same thing.

They literally are by definition.

The democratic process are those functions by which democracy functions. Democracy is merely majority rule.

Democratic process is asking a room full of kids to vote for whether they would like to go outside play; Democracy is allowing or not allow them to do so based on which side got the most votes.

Honestly... just Google Constitutional Republic and see what pops up. If it differs from what your civics professor is telling you... perhaps you should ask them why they're framing it incorrectly.

No. Many democracies and democratic processes have been run that required a 33% vote or 25% vote to pass a motion.

Demo means people and cracy means rule of. Democracy is literally rule by people. People vote. Decisions are made by people. As opposed to an aristocracy where a nobility makes the decisions or a monarchy where a king makes the decisions.

None of which is incompatible with a republic.

Britain is a democracy but not a Republic. They have elections and pass laws through representatives but there is a queen.

Medieval Venice was a republic but not a democracy. They didn't have a king but people didn't have one ounce of say in the way it was run - you had to be favoured by the elite council of about 40 people to become a legislator.

We had the unique innovation (at the time) of being both a democracy AND a republic, as set out by a constitution.

Republic is a what. Democracy is a how. We're both because they answer different questions.

Just look these words up in a dictionary! They'll all tell you the exact same thing! Republic just means there's no king. For Christ's sakes, the Soviet Union was a Republic. We're a republic AND a democracy, and that's what makes us different.

America is a Constitutional Republic... that is objective fact. It is not a "right fact" or a "left fact"... it simply IS. https://legaldictionary.net/constitutional-republic/#:~:text=A%20constitutional%20republic%20is%20a%20form%20of%20government,republic%20is%20the%20United%20States%E2%80%99%20form%20of%20government.

That you do not accept that America is a Constitutional Republic currently puts you on par with Flat-Earthers or Q-Annon in my eyes... incapable of seeing truth even when presented with objective fact to the contrary. I don't engage with Flat-Earthers or those in the Q... mainly because I don't enjoy smashing my face against brick walls.

I've tried to convince you of the obvious but you remain stubbornly resistant... because of pride, I would assume; the information is easy to look up and I know you're now aware of its accuracy. At first I thought the Love America bill which would teach American children about America and it's government was foolish... you've just convinced me that I was wrong in that regard.

I'm finished here. Feel free to have the last word.

Great. But people vote in it for elected offices and this it's also a democracy. Look it up in any dictionary.
