I met many people like you describe, when I was in the Army. Not all of them were drafted, though many were. I also worked, closely at times, with the longest held POW in the Vietnam conflict. They all had one thing in common that served them well. A healthy disrespect for "authority." I knew a few people, one who was a friend of a friend in high school, who joined the Army out of a sense of "Patriotism," then ran to Canada, when times got tough. It takes all kinds.

Sit tight... that freedom seems to be going away thanks to advocating for its removal by some and the complacency/smug stupidity of most others.

I suspect that you, like many others mistake other people's freedom to criticize you as a loss of your freedom of speech. And, remember what Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. said on the subject. "Your Freedom of Speech ends at my nose." You have the freedom to say what you wish and the responsibility for any harm that causes at the same time. Over 585-January 6 rioters are learning that lesson.

Or it could be that President of the United States is working with tech companies to censor dissenting views. While not technically against the first amendment - since it's the tech companies that are doing the censoring... even if it's on the behalf of our government - the result is the same.

What we complain that only the left seems to have that freedom any more. If one from the "other side" says anything that contradicts or pushes back on the status quo gets deleted or otherwise censored out of existence.

The most prolific cottage industry in America the past few years is right-wing communications platforms. You have more than ample outlets for your opinions. If you re pissed that news media sources not aligned with the political right requires facts, it has always been thus. And, how would you know if someone said something, if it was censored out of existence? You cannot know that which does not exist. So, it was communicated on some medium.

The quote I referenced only appears in part in the "Quotes From Chairman Mao. " The first part "Let a hundred flowers bloom," is innocent and safe. But, the rest of the post resulted in an outpouring of dissent and a reactionary crack down by Mao. I posted it as an ironic statement that people who actually read history would get. The movement began in 1956, as his Communist Party encourage "criticism," aimed at improving things. In its micro levels the party conducted "criticism/self-criticism," sessions aimed at producing better communists. Mao thought that so one would criticize him. When they did, he labeled their responses "hateful," just like you label my criticisms of the Tangerine Tyrant. Ironically, you label me as a communist when you act more like one than I do.
