Is basically the anti-vaxxers’ argument. Nevermind the fact that, like a pregnant lady drinking and smoking, their selfish actions pose a direct and measurable threat to others, as predictable by science as the sun rising — to borrow a phrase by Dr. Fauci.
Despite the obvious known risks, we haven’t criminalized pregnant drinking/smoking, or made Covid vaccines mandatory, and we never will, because this is America, dammit.
So, it’s become a matter of trying to coax and cajole the vaccine-skeptical into dropping their hesitancy. It’s tough to sort out how much vaccine resistance is motivated by “true” concerns about the “side-effects” (what little there are), or whether it’s a generalized skepticism toward anything being pushed by the government or, especially, by Democrats. Personally, I suspect it’s the latter.
Well. There is only way to find out for sure which one it is, and that’s for Democrats to stop pushing it, and see what happens.
I may still post about Covid from time to time, but I’m done wasting any more time arguing with hardcore anti-vaxxers. They’re not going to change their minds, and anyone inclined to listen to them over our professional public health officials has problems I can’t solve.
And so I choose freedom — their freedom, and my freedom.
Let God sort out the rest.
