Just an interesting sidenote- a lot of people are under the impression that the only thing we use oil for is transportation. Depending on the year that can only be 35-45% of oil production, the balance can provide asphalt for roofing and roads, the chemical feedstock for everything from our favorite fabrics and plastics to essential chemicals to produce vital medication. It comes out of the ground as oil but gets refined to useful components. The North Face fleece so many environmentalists is made from ethylene extracted from natural gas.
