I’ve been taught both by my zen teachers and my experience that anger is a secondary emotion that comes after fear.
Im also a psych student, Buddhist practitioner and enthusiast of the study of the mind and the mind has been my favorite study for decades.
That being said,
If I’m afraid, anger is the egos response to fear.
There are many possibilities as to why someone would use the word f*ggot.
If it’s being used by someone aggressively here are a few possible reasons to consider.
1. This person has homosexual feelings and thoughts and the are afraid of that.
There are mountains of psychological evidence to support this.
These are the people that rage against homosexuals and then go home and masturbate to gay porn.
The anger is a mask covering self hate and fear.
2. This person, especially males, may have been molested as a child and subsequently that experience is then directed as hate towards any gay male.
Fact: most child molesters are straight men.
3. Religious indoctrination.
Hateful thoughts and words that are programmed into the person as the result of some religious indoctrination in either childhood or adulthood.
Hate is just fear and fear is ignorance.
Not ignorance as in stupid, but ignorance as in not having been taught differently.
Not having actual lived experience with a subject or topic.
Walt Whitman said
“we are all ignorant, just on different subjects.“
I qualify. I’m ignorant to plenty. What I’m not ignorant to is using hate, rage and anger as a mask to cover my fears.
If I’m angry it’s because I’m afraid of something.
Next time you’re angry, ask yourself “self, what exactly are you afraid of?”
