Florida governor desantis is the king of this. Passes laws restricting freedoms of local communities, in the name of freedom. Haha

You have me interested. Which Public Acts (laws)? I would normally look into the claim myself but you seem to have specific acts in mind.

Telling a local municipilaty that they cannot enact a curfew unless the state is in a state of emergency...even though the local seems it appropriate for their local community.

Banning authoritarianism is a pretty authoritarian move /s

Yup. protect you freedoms with more laws? 😳🥺🤪

We already are free ( as much as we ever where, you know since the 14th amendment made us all SUBJECTS).

HA! The exact argument used by Progressives to weasel their way into power, inch by inch. If they push too far or too fast, they cry AUTHORITARIANISM! All the while, they push the Overton Window further and further left until moderates look like rabid bible beaters and even some Democrats seem quite conservative by comparison.

The irony was not lost on me... well said.

When I say telling, I mean enacting laws they cannot govern themselves, only the state can govern them. You know, in the name of small government

I agree that local communities - ran by mayors, counsels and the like - should have their own say so in what policies work best for them. I don't think that prohibiting curfews is on par with authoritarianism - not that you were saying it was - or what the meme was alluding to but I do see your point. It's likely a case could be made and, if a suit is brought against Desantis in this regard, it seems possible the municipality you're referring to could win.

I was unaware of all of this. I'll look into it and thank you for taking the time to let me know. Cheers, Paradise!

The curfew is just one example, of how far the law reaches into local government, making big government bigger. You know what they say about slippery slopes.

That doesn't seem to fit into a conservative Republicans mold. But hey, I am not certain that the right is where it was, now days. IT seems to have SLIPPED A FEW HUNDRED YARDS RIGHT.

We are a Constitutional Republic bound by law which is meant to govern everyone alike (which, of course, hasn't always the case). That laws reach from on-high all the way down to those implemented by your local convenience store shouldn't be that surprising but, again, I understand your point.

You should take a look at statics of the Overton Window. It has certainly shifted but perhaps not in the direction you think.

I think the concept of Big Government fits quite neatly into both Republican and Democrat molds. It's the Republicans and Democrats that champion small government and personal freedom/responsibility that don't fit into the Big Government mold.

This is why both sets of people need to join or form a strong third party... a Libertarian Party - which has existed since the 1970s but is never much heard from… mainly because news media refuses to give their candidates much of any air time. I'm so tired of only having two viable choices during elections; its like having to pick which pile of excrement I like the best.
