Americans accept that slavery - what we immediately think of when the word 'slavery' is used, as opposed to the slavery enacted against any other race besides African Americans - was a form of "moral depravity" and a "hideous blot" on American history (the quoted portions were actually Thomas Jefferson's own words on the subject). As you can tell from the quote, this isn't a new stance. What IS new, however, is a universal sense of entitlement and unwillingness to take ownership of one's actions.
What happened to Floyd was horrible... and completely within his power to avoid. I'll never have a cop kneeling on my neck for any length of time because I don't break the law (other than a bit of speeding here and there). If I'm wrong and I do get got, my parents (plural), while rightfully being heartbroken, will understand it was my fault. But that's because I was reared by a man and woman who took responsibility for their actions and instilled their values in me... unlike so many others like me today.
