Are those actually "templates" that you create a different version of every time you create a new meme (such as adding new unique text or images)? Or are they mainly just single images that you re-post in comments frequently?

The non-anonymous setting is mainly intended for templates that other users would like to make their own memes from.

Some are like this — which is

1. A photo of FLOTUS Jill Biden
2. Captioned in Imgflip, then
3. Deep-fried

Politically speaking, Jill Biden isn’t known for anything controversial or much of anything at all. She may never “be a meme.” But she is still a Person Of Our Times and Ought To Be A Meme (Perhaps). And what would Dr. Jill Biden say if she were a meme? Perhaps “great question” as a good-natured professor of education would say to her students.

Imgflip is full of slightly remade templates, I’m hardly the first. I have added plenty of original photos to Imgflip as well. How “most of them” are? I haven’t done a thorough inventory. It would be a waste of time.

Bottom-line is if I think myself or someone else might find the image useful later, I hit the save template button.

Can you define what a meme template is?

To my knowledge, Neil Patrick Harris is associated with the phrase “challenge accepted.”

But even if he weren’t associated with that phrase: so? Why not give his trademark phrase to a flying pug? Why not pair it with a photo of a woman in glasses looking game for a challenge?

Randomness, serendipity, seemingly incongruent and surprising new associations that may or may not one day be recognized as familiar associations — this is what memeing means to me.

A plain definition of the art of memeing seems elusive. But something to think about.
