Are you ignoring the widely publicized efforts he put forth to get Republicans to vote for the Jan. 6 Commission? He worked with Senator Collins in an informal group trying to squeeze out the handful of votes needed. He represents a state that would not vote for me as their Senator. I try to understand that. I think the lesson of a half loaf is lost on some in the party.

How is your half loaf tasting these days? I believe that balanced ingredients lead to the best bread. The problem is a minority constantly holds up anything of substance leaving no loaf.

Manchin works hard to stay on the tightrope and keep his senate seat in our party. He voted for the recovery act, without alienating his electorate. He will vote for most of our bills. While 49% of registered voters are Democrats or support our party, 34% of all registered voters are Independents, 33% are registered Democrats and 29% are registered as Republicans. That makes voting blocs fluid. Right now, we need former moderate Democrats to vote for our candidates in the mid-terms. We gain nothing by attacking Joe Manchin and could convince those voters that we are extremists who turn on our own.

Changing the system leads to more moderates of all parties and better bread. "Elections have consequences" only seems to apply to the electorate. Representatives should not be able to delay forever and no one should encourage that behavior.

The Republican Party has been taken over by a faction that aligns itself with a foreign government that has no interest in making things better for any of us. We need to be practical and hope things work out.

Well then continue to "compromise" with people that have "no interest in making things better for any of us." I am going to continue arguing to alter the filibuster so representatives have to stand by their votes of either sane or crazy positions.

I am totally opposed to the filibuster. It is totally undemocratic. And, it could be erased forever, when we get the votes. We need to go through the motions of attempting to work with Republicans because some of them are straight players and may be around after this current bunch is run out of town.
