Don’t you think private businesses should be able to mandate masks inside their buildings?

No. We have a vaccine. If one business says they are doing it for safety/health, then the ones that don't are going to be treated as lesser and people will start thinking they have the right to sue over colds and flus. Then every business will mandate masks and vaccines, freedom will be lost and we will be at exactly where we are now.
